Geography
Geography Intent
Our geography curriculum provides pupils with a deeper knowledge and understanding of the world, their place in it and the interconnection of physical and human processes. Pupils learn key geographical concepts before applying them to wider contexts, gaining insight into diverse places, people, resources, sustainability and natural and human environments. Fieldwork is embedded to give pupils hands-on experiences that consolidate learning, provide unique opportunities and remove barriers through inclusive practices and appropriate adaptations for all abilities.
We prioritise retrieval, allowing pupils to recall and apply prior learning from previous lessons and units. Key vocabulary is taught explicitly, modelled and revisited regularly to embed understanding over time. Our enquiry-led approach inspires curiosity and fascination about the world, equipping pupils with the knowledge and skills to progress confidently in further education and beyond.
A central aim of our curriculum is to develop pupils as responsible global citizens. They are encouraged to understand environmental issues, protect our planet and value their local heritage, while also appreciating the wider world. Through these experiences, pupils gain the confidence, knowledge, and curiosity to explore, question and engage with the world around them, fostering a lifelong love of geography and an awareness of their role within it.
