History
History Intent
Our history curriculum brings pupils into a rich dialogue with the past and teaches them how it has shaped their lives as they know it. We develop pupils’ understanding of chronology and secure their mental timeline to support the learning of substantive and disciplinary knowledge. We are determined that our pupils have ‘fingertip knowledge’ which is meaningful due to repeated encounters with our key concepts of agriculture, trade, government, and religion, which are explored in each historical unit of work. The use of enquiry questions shapes pupils’ learning and enables good depth and breadth to their studies.
Our curriculum is fully inclusive, with adaptations and support in place to ensure all pupils can access and engage meaningfully with historical learning, whatever their needs or abilities. We enrich learning through carefully planned trips and life experiences as well as showcases to parents about pupils’ history learning. These bring history to life, building pupils’ cultural capital and enhancing their historical vocabulary through real-world contexts and authentic encounters with the past.
