Music
Music Developement Plan
Music Intent
The music curriculum gives all children the chance to enjoy, create, and perform music. It builds self-esteem and inspires pupils to explore music creatively with their voices and instruments. Using multimedia, children experience a wide range of genres and artists from around the world, encouraging evaluation of musical preferences and fostering a love of music from diverse cultures. Pupils are explicitly taught musical vocabulary that builds progressively year on year, supporting discussion, analysis, and understanding. Small-group specialist teaching and extra-curricular vocal groups offer opportunities to learn instruments and develop skills, with adaptations made where necessary to ensure all pupils can access the curriculum. Key knowledge and skills are revisited and retrieved across units to strengthen learning. Pupils regularly showcase their learning in school performances for parents and take part in performances within the local community, nurturing creativity, self-expression, and a lasting passion for music.
