RE
RE Intent
Our RE curriculum is intellectually challenging and personally enriching. Children acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and other principal religions represented in our local community and across Great Britain. The curriculum is deliberately planned to enable pupils to explore how religious beliefs shape life and behaviour, develop the ability to make reasoned and informed judgements, and enhance their spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development.
RE at Northfield Road promotes respect and open-mindedness towards a wide range of faiths and beliefs. It provides opportunities for rich theological discussions, critical thinking and personal reflection. Pupils’ learning is supported through adaptive teaching, carefully matched to individual needs, and reinforced through retrieval practice over time, helping knowledge and understanding become embedded. Key religious vocabulary is explicitly taught and revisited to ensure clarity and depth of understanding.
Through creative expression, learners contextualise their learning in their own lives as citizens of modern Britain. RE fosters social awareness and understanding, with British values embedded so pupils build knowledge of their rights and responsibilities. The curriculum encourages creativity, imagination, enquiry, debate, discussion, and independence, developing confident and thoughtful learners.
